Practice Value Estimate

Depending on the size (collections) of your practice, the value may fall into one of three possible buyer interest levels. These levels are not exact as every practice has some variables that may make it more (or less) attractive to these buyer types.

Annual Collections

Under $500,000 – Attractive primarily as a merger (“tuck in”) for larger practices nearby, a startup for first time buyers, or a satellite office. Selling doc will generally need to leave soon after closing as there is not enough cash flow to support more than one doctor.

$500,000 – $800,000 – This is the range that may attract many first-time buyers or docs with associate ready to plug in. Value will increase if high potential (strong hygiene, referred out procedures, under-performing for the area and/or demographic potential). Buyer may wish for selling doc to stay for 3-6 months.

$800,000 and up – This is the starting point for most group (DMOs, DSOs, MSOs) buyers and financially strong individual buyers. Higher selling prices (as a percentage of collections) result for solid practices because of competition and evaluations based on multiples of profit. Selling doc may be required (and/or desire) to stay two to three years or longer with flexibility to work fewer hours after initial transition.
